Hello everyone! I know each individual's craft is different but since I'm still figuring mine out for myself (and since I am a fan of hearing experiences & advice from others), I was curious if there are things that you've learned that you would have liked to know to know when you were starting out in witchcraft (or any general information you think is good to know) Maybe even how your experiences with your first spells went, or how you got into/decided to start witchcraft would be cool to hear (if you're okay with sharing) - Charlotte

1. EVERYTHING IS MAGICAL IF YOU PUT INTENT BEHIND IT!!!! As someone who grapples with motivation and energy, it's tough when you have tons of big plans for Beltane and then the day comes and you just. Can't or don't. Or you want to work a spell, but you just can't seem to figure out which one or for what purpose or whatever.
Incorporating witchcraft into my every day life is still a practice, but it's much better than relying on big gestures. Sometimes the most magical thing I do all day is sort through some of my favorite stones, pick the ones appropriate for what I feel the day will bring, toss them in a bag and carry them with me. Sometimes it's just taking a shower while being speaking to the water flow, because its a place I feel safe and comfortable in. Sometimes it's a little meditation or prayer, which used to be SO HARD for me to do, until I thought less about "doing it right" than "I'm going to light a candle and feel the warmth as I deliberately think about my day or my dreams or my frustrations". Sometimes it's pulling a tarot card and taking 5 minutes to research what it means on my phone.
It's the small things that matter, and it's the daily routine that weaves magic into your life, not elaborate initiations or incantations or spells with successful feedback (though all of those are awesome and great as well!).
2. WITCHCRAFT ISN'T A RELIGION Want to be pagan but wiccan reading isn't doing you any? Don't have to be. Monotheistic or ethnically an Abrahamic religion but still feel drawn to magic and its power? You can be both. Want to be secular? Go for it. Witchcraft is about ritual, celebration, connection--but to what or who you are celebrating or connecting etc to, is up to you.
3. READING MYTHOLOGY AND HISTORY OF RELIGIONS IS REALLY HELPFUL I'm currently reading a book called "Oh! Mother Sun" which is about dismantling the Apllonian (and therefore masculine) reign over the sun by delving into the religions and myths and stories from cultures all over the world and showing how many sun goddesses have been worshipped throughout the years, and how there is just as much feminine energy and divinity in the day as there is in the night. It's pretty awesome and I am learning a TON of really interesting stuff.
It's super easy to be on tumblr and to skim cool posts. Or reblog masterlists. But go out of your way to find a book that interests you, really sit down and read it, don't have it just as a reference. You'll gain a lot of personal insight as well as general knowledge about the world around you, magical or not.
