There is going to be an herb of the day! To get me moving and start writing important stuff I learn down instead of just writing to-do lists. x] I might not update every day but I'm going to try!
Today's herb is... ROSEMARY!
-- Ruled by the zodiac sign Leo, the Sun, and the element of Fire
-- Identified as masculine but there is much evidence to contest this identification.
1. All of the divine figures it is sacred to are female: most notably, Aphrodite and the Virgin Mary. Rosmarinus roughly translates to "dew of the sea" in Latin (1), a probable connection to the origin myth of Aphrodite, as rising into being from the surf of the sea. [To be more sexually explicit, Uranus' extra semen that didn't help cultivate the goddess as the "dew".] Christianity took it's Latin name and turned the meaning into "Rose of Mary," connecting it to the Virgin Mary, who according to legend turned a bush of the white flowers blue when she laid her blue cloak over it (2).
2. The sun is not inherently a masculine ruler, despite the Romanticized and Apollonian grip on sun mythology. I can go about this in length but that statement is enough for now.
-- Key words are protection, memory, healing, and harmony in relationships.
-- A good herb to burn or use for cleansing an area, for purposes of physical ailment, emotional or mental confusion.
-- Good for use in memory spells, for long-lasting protection, and for love
-- Amazing herb in the kitchen, very versatile and delicious.
