Hey everyone:
So I don't follow the spirituality/religion of Wicca, but I consider myself an eclectic practitioner of witchcraft.
With that said: what tools do you use that are generally used within the Wiccan religion/spirituality that you may use within your own craft? Or what tools do you NOT use that wiccans do?
I don't have a chalice and I don't have/don't use an athame (I use a pair of scissors as a substitute when casting a circle as one would use an athame, but I may use my wand instead of the scissors).
Don't judge me, but I use a replica of the elder wand from Harry Potter as my wand for several reasons: - it's the only actual wand I have - I love Harry Potter and even though I may have obtained the wand years ago, I still love it, and feel connected to it
Some may disagree with using a movie replica as a wand, but as with all witchcraft, I believe it's the person and their intentions that count, not the tools.
I also don't have/don't use a besom/broom.
I'm planning on getting a chalice and mortar & pestle hopefully within the following few months.
Summary:
I use scissors as a makeshift athame and a Harry Potter wand as my wand. What tools do y'all use or don't use and what would you like to possibly use in your craft?

I HAVE A REPLICA ELDERS WAND TOO!!! Like - 1) WHO NEEDS A REASON TO OWN IT?!?? ITS THE FREAKING ELDER WAND!!! (I love Harry Potter too!) Also, I have a really neat dual ended quartz crystal-chakra wand, and a selinite wand. But mostly because aesthetics.
Honestly I don't really use tools in my practice for anything other than practicality. I have a really neat white marble mortar and pestle that I use for my herbs, a big wooden bowl I use for mixing and holding stuff I'm working with. But I don't have an alter cloth, or a chalice or anything like that. I do have and use candles, herbs, rain water, moon water, etc. But Only when I feel they are needed for what I'm working on.
I just don't really feel the need to use tools, I feel like I'm pretty damn powerful on my own accord. Usually when I cast a spell, it's one I've written, and I typically burn it during my ritual. I was using a copper bowl that my papa used to keep his change in, but it creates this weird oil from the chemical reaction.

YAS it's such a cool looking wand too tbh! I totally forgot I have a small selenite wand that I was using as a wand for a little bit of time.
Okay cool I'm glad to know I'm not the only one to not use all the tools. When I first started researching the occult and paganism and witchcraft, I was running into a lot of posts or readings saying "THINGS EVERY WITCH SHOULD HAVE!!" and it would talk about the besom and athame and whatnot and I felt bad that I didn't have them and felt like I wouldn't be able to do my craft without them but I've learned the one true thing every witch needs is their INTENT. Aside from that, all the tools are basically just extra "oomph" in my opinion. I feel the same as you Jess, I feel pretty powerful just using myself/my own accord.

I read this really awesome article/post about how you don't need to have what every witch has, and you don't have to go out and buy some fancy whatever. It talked the importance of utilization. Like if you are going to have an athame that you're going to use to cut things with...get a kitchen knife and use it as an athame, it's going to be hella cheaper, and the best part, totally purposeful. Idk about any of you, but I've bought things because of the niche appeal or simply aesthetic reasons, and then they were cheaply made, or didn't work for what I needed them for.
So, I urge everyone to use things that fit the purpose you're needing. I buy my bottles at target/michaels/hobby lobby. I buy some of my herbs, or coconut oil at HEB - the HEB brand...SO MUCH CHEAPER. Like Bay Leaves, Rosemary, etc. TRUST ME. buying all that shit wholesale is not really worth it.

Yall fudge anything that says "you must have [x] to be a witch" Use what works for YOU
I use scissors all the damn time, and not even special scissors because paper craft tools go missing in my room weekly. I do have a white-handled knife to cut herbs with etc, but I've never really had to use it so far? Also I keep it hidden bc I'm pretty sure my parents wouldn't be cool with me having a knife in my room.
I recently went to a Dollar Tree and scooped up this big black bowl, like super deep and big, like a soup bowl sorta blew up in an oven, and I've dubbed it my cauldron and do stuff with it all the time. I usually anoit the outside with oil pertaining to whatever I'm making or brewing, and if it includes hot water, I have a hot water boiler I pour into it. I'm the witch queen of short-cuts man.
Something I have SUPER lust for is a mortar and pestle. We do have on in the house but it's big and it's my sisters for aesthetic or whatever and it's just not mine or calls to me. So I want to get one of those.
I have a small crafted wand with tiny quartz sticks embedded in it, but honestly using it makes me feel silly instead of empowered haha. It's hard for me to visualize with it, I guess. When I made boundaries or want to "move" energy, I either use my hands, smoke, or this giant bag of miscellaneous rocks. There's something very soothing about one by one laying down stones and then completing and sitting in a circle. I break it all the goddamn time because I always forget something or I'm referencing something on my computer, but I always reseal afterwards. x]
Use what works! Use what feels right! Witchcraft is all about intention and manifestation-- that's what I love most about it. For a kitchy-craftsy person like me, it's perfect
